How to Earn Quality Time on the Court

Why has non-game activity become a global phenomenon? Why do you train so hard? Is it because all of your friends are doing it? NO. Is it because your parents want you to? NO. The reason you put in the sweat equity is to get quality playing time in EVERY game you play. So what is QT or quality playing time? QT is meaningful minutes of play time. This means that when your coach needs someone to play the bulk of the minutes, you are the one they look to. And when it is crunch time in the game, your coach looks to you as one of the go-to players.

Playing QT allows you to influence and impact the game how YOU want to. THIS is what you have been training for. You get to play the type of game you know, love, and respect. What does that look like?

  1. Coaches don’t alter any part of your game, giving you mental certainty which allows you to play freely.
  2. You earn a margin of error with the coach, allowing you to play without fretting over mistakes.
  3. You know you are going to score as it is a byproduct of your QT minutes.
  4. You become a purposeful touch (PT) player, making you a floor leader.

It’s important for you to remember, especially on the days that you aren’t putting your max effort, energy, and attitude towards your training, that every day is a QT day. You have to remember you are only able to control certain things and you must always allow room for improvement. Note…this applies to any area in life. Remember, how you do anything is how you do everything.
